Isaiah 28:1-8

As a young adult we tend to indulge in worldly activities. One of the most common ones is partying and drinking. This passage brings the message home about what alcohol and substances can do to you and how it is an act that does not please the Lord if done for the wrong reasons.

These indulgences don't last. It is unlike what God blesses us, for those gifts, desires, goals, dreams, and even tangible activities  will last forever and will be good for us. He only gives us the best. The joy that we think we gain from acts such as drinking won't last, and it may even bring harm to you. That moment of fake joy is like a fading flower that will wither, as mentioned in verse 1.

I too can succumb to peer pressure when non-Christian friends push me to hang out and chill with them in this way... but I strive to continue running the good race. This race was never meant to be easy and comfortable. Sometimes you have to put yourself out there and look different, and if saying no to a drink is the way to go, then I go for it. It's also encouraging to know that if ever I do succumb to this temptation, God is strong and He will wake me up from my delusion. He'll bring a hailstorm, a destructive wind, driving rain, or a flooding downpour if need me to bring me back.

Isaiah 28:6
He will be a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.

God is sovereign over all things, and He will remain sovereign over my life. I don't have to fear what others may say or think about me because He is just and by obeying His commands I will be bringing unto myself the goodness of the Lord and the grace that He has to offer. I can draw all the strength I need from Him to battle this temptation.
