One of the things that was illustrated in this chapter was a way to handle tough situations... and clearly it is to turn to God for our help and pray. Praying is a form of worship as you are surrendering yourself to God's power, knowing that He is powerful and can do many things. When Jacob heard that Esau was bringing four hundred men along to see him, He was scared and turned to the Lord. God will never forsake us and He will do whatever He needs to bring about the consequences and outcomes that He wants. We just need to believe that He will do what's right, despite what we may think ourselves.
In addition, aligning yourself to God's mindset will help you overcome tough situations as well. Really thinking about what Jesus would do in your shoes will help you make the right decisions in life. Jacob thought that blessing Esau with gifts would show his humility and love towards his brother. Jesus would have probably done something along the same lines.
