This is such a beautiful analogy of what Jesus has done for humankind.
Romans 7:4
So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.
You can say that we were once "married" to the wickedness of the world. We wouldn't stop sinning because of the evil temptations and worldly, materialistic values that leads us farther and farther away from God. We loved doing these things that God doesn't want us to do. However, it was through Jesus Christ that we were freed from our evil "partner". By dying on the cross, we too died a death due to the weight of our sins...but was reborn when Jesus himself resurrected and overcame death. As a new, purified individual we can find our real "partner of life".... and that is God. Use your new life to please Him. Bear your spiritual fruit to God as what Romans 7:4 says. :)
Romans 7:6
But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
