Paul tells us of the difference between the Israelites and the Gentiles.
The Gentiles were deemed righteous because they believed and had faith.
The Israelites are explained by verse 31.
Romans 9:31
but Israel, who purseued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works.
We can never receive our salvation and be justified by works. That's not how it goes. God credits us righteousness when we believe and proclaim that His son Jesus was the one who took our sins away. By calling Jesus your saviour, you are guaranteed a spot in God's family and are adopted as a son or daughter of God. As an example of Jesus Christ to others, we should always be doing good works but relying on simply that to be saved will not do.
Romans 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Believe with your heart and speak of the Gospel. Remember it is by faith! Through that God will open the gates of heaven for you. :)
