Warning Against Unbelief: Hebrews 3:7-18

Hebrews 3:12-13
See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.

It's hard to keep an open heart and mind that's always pointed to God. With all the distractions in this world, our attention is easily turned away to something else other than God in a split second by our sinful, worldly desires, but with the accountability of other fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, this obligation... actually, not even obligation... this desire to keep God as number one in all aspects of your life will be made much easier.

With the support of my best friends and also with my family at the fellowship back at the university, I've never felt so compelled to keep God at the centre of my life. At first, I just never cared. Yes, I knew Jesus was my saviour and that He saved me from my sins but my heart was still cold. I could be described as a lukewarm Christian back then. We know what happens to these people.

Revelations 3:16
So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

That sounds terrible. Now, things have changed. I do have a growing desire to learn more about God, to know more about Jesus. I've been called to serve in different ministries and I hope that this fire in my heart will not die. Through my own experiences, I understand how important it is to have that circle of friends who can keep you on track in your spiritual walk with God. Again, it's so easy to fall away but that's what the others are there for. To help you get back up and walk on the right path again.

Hebrews 3:18-19
And to whom did God swear that they would never enter the rest if not to those who disobeyed? So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

Unbelief doesn't only account for those who haven't experienced God's love. It also includes those individuals who don't care, who don't trust, who don't follow. One who claims that they are a Christ follower may still be an unbeliever as they do not act the way a Christian should or still doesn't trust that He is in control of all things. I was one of them... but now I have matured and grown into one who's firm in belief when I say that God is the sovereign Lord. Jesus is my saviour and I live my life for him. Don't be one of those people. You have been warned because these people will not get to be with God in his heavenly and peaceful presence when we die and are reborn.
